I'm wanted to buy this game but my system recently give up on me. Therefore, i need a whole new setup before i can buy it. From all the player's experiences, i said this game is better than Morrowind.

Even with my new 6800GS the frame rates on high quality settings are nothing to brag on. I had to drop off to 800/600 to get a rate that I was "happy" with (about 25, avg). This game is bringing a lot of systems to their knees, but that shouldn't come as any surprise, given all the reviews of it over the last couple of years.

Mister Overhill...I do not own that game. I should borrow it from a friend to see if it will bring my rig to it's knees.

Just for the heck of it, I launched F.E.A.R. at 1024/768 with all the bells and whistles going, since the game was still on my hard drive (finished it awhile back). Frame rate consistently 100-115 with FRAPS, and this game is supposed to choke a lot of cards.

Haven't tried that one, but heard that it is pretty tough. BTW, tried F.E.A.R. again, loading different saved games, and got rates as low as 45-60, so I spoke too soon on the very high rates all around. My bad.

Ok..I havent played either of those Fear or Oblivion on my set up. I am not much of a shooter type gamer. But I do like the graphics they come out with. BTW: I am running a Dell 5100 3.4Ghz 650 chipset HT, with 4Gb Ram and a X800XL PCIe card. I know I cannot run BF2 at the highest settings to run it well. I have to knock it down just a touch for that one. It still looks awesome...but like I said...I have to turn it down a touch to get the full speed out of it.

It is a Dell Dimension 5100...they only have a 305w PSU. It "acts" like a 350w though. I would have to beef up the PSU to add a super vid card. And actually the X800XL is a real nice card! Equal to a 6800GT

Just out of curiosity, what are the dangers of running a card that needs a 350W Power Supply on a 300W?

Really it depends on the PSU. For example my Dell with a 305w PSU is rated lower then it can actually handle. I learned this on the Dell Forums. So I can get away with a 350w card. I alos did the same thins with my Dim 4600. It has a 250w PSU and I been running a 9800pro in it for over two years and that card demands a 300w PSU.

One of the few bad things I have to say about this game, is that the abundance of realism makes other small details that are not in place all the more apparent. For example, in Guildwars you are not at all bothered by the fact that the environment can not be manipulated in any way. But in Oblivion, with all the physics it can be rather annoying to find out that you can't cut a rope for example, and that your horse lacks a jump animation. You'd think with the rediculous details they put into the game they would have found the time to add those details aswell. Of course these small flaws have no impact on gameplay what so ever, but you stop taking such things for granted when a game goes for so much realism.

And no attacking while mounted! WTF over? I mean, what the hell is this? I have a horse, a sword, but I cant attack? So much for realism. The cutting rope thing is nothing new. Same in morrowind.
So if you all can download the construction set for Oblivion, why not do it, and for those of you wanting glass this or deadric that, just create it. (Im assuming the construction set works like the one from Morrowind)

Once you reach a certain level, you will start seeing the nice stuff. I'm level 17 I think, and random bandits now attack me decked out with glass weapons and mithril armor. It's awesome, everytime a bandit tries to jump me I get all kinds of loot!

Maybe you're playing on a lower difficulty, capblueberry, because when I first started, my Redgard Warrior was only lvl 2 and going to the first Oblivion gate. Maybe bump the difficulty up a bit so that the mobs are harder to kill, and thus, helps you work up your major skills. Or if that doesn't work, crawl through some of the caves and such and clear it of enemies. That's the real beauty of The Elder Scrolls Series...do whatever you want and not be bound by your primary quests only.

well, i recently discovered Oblivion (this week lol) i'm only level 2 Battlemage but i'm already loving it. i didnt know about it being so graphics heavy, as my graphics card cost me £40 a few months ago and runs the game fine at 800x600 & most other things turned on/up full.
My Setup
Athlon 64 3000+
2GB DDR400Ram
GeCube X550 PCI-e graphics card (ati)
160Gig, 7500rpm ide hd.
Windows XP home ed.
built in sound card.
a small tip tho, is to disable any programs you can, eg antivirus, messenger, firewall etc, which can noticeably speed up the framerate of a game

Anyone know if the game world is bigger in Oblivion than Morrowind?
Also, about that random mob spawn issue (walk past the same spots and see all the monsters from the game there eventually?)

Yes, supposedly the world is bigger than Morrowind. I don't recall the exact figures though.
Not sure about the random mob thing - it seems to me so far that mobs are somewhat area-specific - like ghosts in dungeons, the higher Daedra in Oblivion, bandits and wild animals about anywhere.
